As the summer draws to a close we find ourselves already in September with children all prepared to go back to school. This is a month when the last of the harvest is gathered in and the fields begin to look empty as the annual cycle of growth is completed.
He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life”. ‘Revelations 21:6 Jesus said this to John who recorded it in the book of Revelations at the end of the Bible. This was written in Greek and the Alpha to Omega would be like us saying from A to Z – it includes everything – all the letters of the alphabet – all things we can imagine are covered by him.
As September is both in some ways the end of the main season of growing, it is also the start of the next season – the start of the school year – the cycle continues. This passage reminds us that God in Jesus is with us in the whole of our lives too, whether we are at the beginning and this is our first day at primary school or we are towards the sunset of our lives.
Jesus promises to give us water from the spring of life without cost. Without cost. The gift is free and the gift is available for us all. It is available for us this year and next, in this season and the next. Whether we think we deserve it or not, we just have to receive the love that comes from Jesus. A love that will bring us new life here and now, and new life after death in the glories of heaven, our full and complete restoration if only we would let ourselves drink of it.
With every blessing
