In Caravaggio's painting The Incredulity of Thomas, the apostle is shown laying his finger in the Risen Christ's wound. Does Thomas need to do this in order to convince him of the resurrection, or is it the opposite? Might Thomas need to see the wound in order to accept the crucifixion? Thomas recognises Jesus as God Himself. It is indeed hard to believe that God, the creator and sustainer of the universe, the giver of life, allows Himself to become utterly vulnerable. That God took on human form and allowed himself to be tortured and killed.
